Sylvan Lake Municipal Library is hosting drop-in events for families and for kids who are at loose ends over the school break.

On Saturday, February 19th, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., families and kids of all ages can drop in to do crafts based on the Dreamworks film Abominable.

The Abominable Party lines up with Sylvan Lake’s Winterfest celebration.

Corrie Brown, Sylvan Lake Municipal Library Programmer, said, "We've always paired the Winterfest celebrations in town with our Frozen Party. This year we decided to switch it up and celebrate another fun, snowy movie that has an equally uplifting message.”

There will be copies of the movie to sign out along with popcorn on a first come, first served basis. A library card is required to sign out movies.

Brown said, “The drop-in days are always fun for the community because they can stop by at a time that works for them and enjoy the activities at their own pace.”

The library is also offering activities while the schools in the area are on Winter Break the following week.

The library is closed on February 21st for Family Day but will be open for School’s Out Drop-In Days on Tuesday, February 22nd to Friday, February 25th. Activities start by 11:00 a.m. each day and end at 3:00 p.m.

Drop-in activities will include using the Oculus Rift virtual reality gaming system and other games, taking part in Makerspace activities, and creating a variety of crafts.

"Our drop-in craft and game days over the Christmas break were really popular with families and a great way to connect with people that we don't normally get to see in the library,” said Brown. “We're happy to be able to provide a safe, fun, engaging place for kids to be when they're not in school.”

All ages are welcome at the drop-in events, but children under eight years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Masks must be worn while in the library.
