On January 11, families can dress up as their favourite superheroes or supervillains and enjoy superhero-themed activities at Sylvan Lake Municipal Library from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.

Families can register for the event in person at the library, by emailing sylvan.library@prl.ab.ca, or by calling the library at 403-887-2130.

Participants are encouraged to show off their super-poses and take photos as they listen to stories, play games, and build some super-crafts.

"It just engages our community. We have lots of young families and kids that make use of our programs.  It's nice to be able to do something every so often that is a celebration of literacy, with games and different kinds of fun stuff," said Corrie Brown, Programmer at Sylvan Lake Municipal Library.

Brown said the library brings in a variety of books, depending on the theme of events. She said they are able to pull additional resources from the Parkland Regional Library system to make sure they have a wide range of materials available to kids to keep them interested in new reads.

"It's really nice when the kids get to engage in the social aspect of storytime," Brown said. "This is a great time for kids and parents to be both silly and serious, and show their epic strength, whether they are a superhero or a villain."

Brown said the kids get very excited about the superhero/villain parties especially because it gives them a chance to dress up and take on that 'super persona'.

All ages are welcome, with games and crafts aimed at preschool children.
