Local students in Lacombe were treated to a career fair at Ecole Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School last night (March 8).

Professionals from around 50 local businesses came to the school to share their experiences. Post-secondary schools were also present at the event to share their programs and scholarships.

Grade 10 student at the high school, Capri Wyld said it was a valuable experience.

“I thought honestly there's a lot of pretty cool people here that are showing off their careers and like what they do and yeah, a lot of universities are here too showing us what courses they have and like scholarships and programs like that. It's pretty cool,” said Wyld.

Wyld is a volleyball player and is looking for a post-secondary school with a good athletics program.

“I picked two universities right now, Lethbridge and the Calgary University because they have both really good...sports scholarships and programs. [Out of] the jobs that I've seen the emergency paramedic--I thought that was really interesting and pretty cool to go into and then also the Sunny 94 booth was also pretty cool and snazzy,” added Wyld.

Wyld says she is looking forward to potentially sending University applications out to some of the schools she saw at the career fair.

The students were also provided questions and conversation starters to ask employers and post-secondaries in order to guide them in their conversations and help eliminate nerves.
