On April 6, 2023, an officer with the Blackfalds RCMP stopped a vehicle on the QE II Highway for a traffic violation. After running checks, officers arrested the driver for outstanding warrants, furthermore, officers determined that the vehicle did not have valid registration or insurance. Upon searching the vehicle officers located:

·       a loaded shotgun between the driver’s seat and the console

·       multiple knifes

·       34.7 grams of suspected fentanyl

Kalym Steven Taberner (27,) a resident of Springbrook Alta., has been charged with:

·       Possess firearm in contravention of regulation

·       Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (x2)

·       Unauthorized possession of firearm

·       Possession of break in instruments

·       Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

·       Provincial tickets (x2)

Taberner was taken before a Justice of the Peace where he was released from custody with his next court date set for May 4, 2023 at the Red Deer Court of Justice.
