Red Deer Rebels Owner/President/General Manager Brent Sutter announced today that the club has completed a trade with the Moose Jaw Warriors.

The Rebels have acquired goaltender Kyle Kelsey (’04) from Moose Jaw, a fourth-round selection in today’s 2022 WHL Prospects Draft (69th overall, originally belonging to Victoria), along with a conditional 6th round selection in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, in exchange for goaltenders Connor Ungar (’02), Justen Maric (’04) and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. 

Originally signed by Moose Jaw in 2019, Kelsey was honoured as the top U16 goaltender in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) in 2019-20 while playing with Burnaby Winter Club. Kelsey played 28 games with the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL in 2021-22, posting a 14-12-0 record, 2.83 goals against average and .913 save percentage.

The Red Deer Rebels also selected two players at the 2022 Western Hockey League U.S. Priority Draft on Wednesday. 

With the 14th overall pick in round one, the Rebels selected Jeramiah Roberts, a forward from Monument, Colorado. In 46 games played in 2021-22 with the Colorado Rampage U14 AAA, Roberts had 26 goals and 20 assists for 49 points, along with 82 penalty minutes.

With the 31st overall pick in round two, the Rebels selected Quinten Flores, a defenceman from Arvada, Colorado. In 60 games played in 2021-22 with the Colorado Thunderbirds U14 AAA, Flores had 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points, along with 50 penalty minutes.
