The Red Deer RCMP led a multi-agency investigation that resulted in a series of drug seizures from all across Alberta.

The seizures were made as the result of a collaborative effort made by the Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section Unit, Calgary Police Service, Rocky Mountain RCMP, and Didsbury RCMP. Together the police and RCMP made four arrests and laid 17 charges in Red Deer, Calgary, Rocky Mountain House, and Carstairs.

"It's just too far of a span for us to be spread out that thinly but fortunately with our organization and the relationships that we developed already it was seamless, really," explained Sergeant Robert Schultz about the collaboration effort.

Although the Red Deer RCMP began the investigation, there were no warrants within the city itself.

"Fortunately, we didn't actually have a search warrant here in town. Here, is where the main distribution was happening but that was more of a mobile operation."

The substantial drug seizure was estimated at approximately $300,000 in cash and product on the street by Sargeant Schultz as an accumulation of the seizure in all four areas.

The Sergeant urges Red Deer residents to be diligent and observant and to call in suspicious behaviour as they see it happening so that they the RCMP can continue to be successful. As for the criminals, he believes this type of activity just isn't worth it.

"There's no benefit to doing this type of crime it's random it's unorganized. Eventually, you will get caught because these types of substances are sought after because of ill effects. It's not regulated in any way and that's a bad thing."

In the end, drug seizures as this certainly make a dent on Red Deer's crime scene if not clue the forces in on how another criminal organization goes about their business.

nce between police agencies. We’re all working toward the same goals of crime reduction, and we see many of the same repeat offenders crossing jurisdictions, so it’s imperative that we work smarter than the criminals.”
