The City of Red Deer’s holiday activities will be kicked off this Friday on November 19th when the lights at City Hall will be lit for the season. This year’s activities will be slightly modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In addition to the lights, this weekend there will be a Downtown Winter Market held at the Imperial Block Building located on 4919 49 Street. The market will be open from noon to 4:00PM on November 18, 19, and 20th.

Several contests and other events will be available for Red Deer residents. Local businesses will be open late and offering take-home activities and sales. You can find the participating businesses around City Hall Park, Ross Street Patio, and Capstone.

Here’s a look at some other holiday-themed activities happening in the City over the next couple of weeks:

Christmas Craft Drive-Thru -December 4

Pick up supplies for a festive craft from the Family Services of Central Alberta in the parking lot located at 5409 50 Avenue. 

 

Late Night Shopping -December 9 

Downtown and Capstone businesses will remain open until 8PM. 

 

Santa’s Bus Tour- December 10, 11, 17, 18

Santa Clause will be touring Red Deer on a transit bus through local neighbourhoods. Here’s a look at his schedule:

  • December 10- North Red Deer: Pines, 67 Street, Johnstone Park, Kentwood, Normandeau, Oriole Park, Riverside Meadows, Highland Green. 
  • December 11- South Red Deer: Downtown, North Red Deer: Bower, West Park, Downtown, Gaetz Avenue North
  • December 17- South Red Deer: Sunnybrook, Inflewoord, Anders, Morrisoe, Eastview, Clearview Meadows, 55 Street, Downtown, Gaetz Avenue North
  • December 18- East Red Deer: Vanier, Lancaster, Deer Park, Rosedale Timberlands, Clearview Ridge.
