An important fundraiser for the Red Deer Hospice Society is coming up on Sunday, June 9th. It is the 17th Annual Run/Hike event at Bower Ponds.

Janelle Spady, The Donor Relations and Event Coordinator for the society talks about the importance of the event.

"It is one of our larger fundraisers for Red Deer Hospice, and we're hoping to raise $50,000 in donations and pledges. All of which stays in Red Deer to support end of life care in our community."

Participants will have the option to walk or run either one, three or five kilometers routes. Teams and individuals can register on the Red Deer Hospice website for $25 per person. The first 200 registrants will receive a t-shirt.

Run/Hike participants can also enjoy a light breakfast or a hot, post-race lunch, provided by Mr. Mikes, while enjoying live entertainment from the band ‘Fun House’ in the amphitheater.

Spady talks about the event being for everyone.

"The event isn't about speed. It's not about who wins the race. It's just an opportunity to celebrate the life of a loved one, spend time with family and friends, and just get out and get moving while raising money in support of end of life care in central Alberta."
