From Red Deer College:

Red Deer College is very proud to announce Alisha Coules (Queens Soccer) and Kyle Bett (Kings Soccer) as the Athletes of the Week.

Both student-athletes had some personal success on the soccer pitch this past weekend, but more importantly, they helped each of their teams earn an important road victory.

Alisha Coules – Queens Soccer

Hometown – Stettler, AB

Bachelor of Science Nursing (2nd year)

This past weekend, Alisha Coules was outstanding on the Queens Soccer team’s two-game road trip. On Saturday in Medicine Hat, the Queens and Rattlers were scoreless at the half, until Alisha kicked the offence into another gear. The second-year student-athlete scored a natural hat trick, striking in the 51st, 61st and 70th minute, helping the RDC Queens eventually defeat the host Rattlers 4-0. The Bachelor of Science Nursing student was named the Queens Player-of-the-Game.

Despite dropping a 3-0 decision to the Kodiaks on Sunday, Alisha was once again noticeable on the soccer pitch. She displayed a strong work ethic and tried to generate several scoring opportunities against a formidable Kodiaks’ defence. The talented forward from Stettler showed dogged determination, playing all 90 minutes.

Kyle Bett – Kings Soccer

Hometown – Calgary, AB

Kinesiology General (3rd year)

Calgary’s Kyle Bett played an integral role helping the Kings Soccer team earn four of a possible six points in the standings this past weekend. The third-year played a full 90 minutes in both games and was very effective, especially defensively. The Kinesiology General student was instrumental in preserving the 0-0 tie while down a man against the Rattlers on Saturday.

In Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 victory in Lethbridge, Kyle played a well-rounded game, contributing on both sides of the ball. Besides another stalwart performance on defence, Kyle had a pair of shots and assisted on the Kings’ opening goal, which was a marker from Matthew Elphick. For his standout effort, Kyle was selected as the Kings Player-of-the-Game.

The RDC Cross Country Running Kings & Queens are ready to host Running Room Grand Prix #2 on Saturday. This week, both Red Deer College Soccer teams will play their home openers. There is also non-conference hockey action at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
