The Red Deer Rebels have a set a new modern Western Hockey League (1978-current) record by winning their 13th consecutive game to start the 2022-23 season.

The Rebels established the new mark with a 7-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place on Sunday.

The previous modern WHL record for wins to start a regular season belonged to the Swift Current Broncos, who won their first 12 contests to begin the 1988-89 campaign.

The all-time WCHL/WHL record for wins to begin a season belongs to the 1967-68 Estevan Bruins squad that won their first 22 games out of the gate.

Red Deer now has a chance to equal its franchise record winning streak of 14 games, set during the 2001-02 season, when they visit the Swift Current Broncos this Friday, November 4.
