It was a great weekend for college hockey as both the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens were crowned ACAC Hockey Champions.

For the Kings, they defeated the NAIT Ooks 2-1 in Game 3 to sweep the Ooks in the best-of-five-game series to clinch their first championship since the 1993/1994 season. Goaltender Arik Weersink (Bachelor of Business Administration) was named the player of the game as he stopped 23 of 24 shots.

As for the Queens, they now have won back-to-back champions as they swept the Ooks as well. However, their Game 3 would need overtime in Edmonton but it did not take long for forward Avery Lajeunnesse (Bachelor of Education) to find the back of the net and score the championship-winning goal. Stopping 30 of 31, goaltender Tanya Disotell-Dunsmore earned her second player of the game award of the playoffs.

This ended up being the final gameday on the RDP Athletics 2022/2023 schedule and it was a night to remember for the hockey student-athletes.
