The 2016-2017 ACAC Basketball season opens Saturday (Oct 29th) at the RDC Main Gym.

The Queens tip-off at 6:00 p.m. and the Kings follow at 8:00 p.m.

Both RDC teams have many talented student-athletes returning this season, while also adding several promising recruits.

Last season, the Red Deer College Kings Basketball team finished first in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Basketball South Division and capped the season off with a fourth place finish in the ACAC playoffs.

Every year the goal is excellence and that comes by looking at both the short and long term goals.

Kings Basketball Head Coach Clayton Pottinger feels there is a good combination of student-athletes this season to help provide that. “This season we have a good mix of veterans and youth. There are six returning players and six straight out of high school,” said Pottinger. “We wanted to think long term with adding the younger student-athletes. Many of them are enrolled in four year programs. I feel we have a perfect mix of returning players, new players to be part of rebuilding the team and three imports.”

Last season the Red Deer College Queens Basketball team experienced some growth, and in the 2016-2017 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Basketball season they look to take another step towards the playoffs.

Head Coach Ken King enters his third year with the Queens and is pleased with the experience in the lineup this year. “We are substantially more experienced this season with 10 student-athletes who have played postsecondary basketball before,” said King. “We have the maturity and athleticism that will lend itself well to our style of play. The goal this year is to make the playoffs, but by taking it one game at a time.”
