On Thursday, March 24 2022,  at approximately 11:00 a.m., Members of the Maskwacis RCMP General Duty were dispatched to a complaint of an armed robbery in the Samson Townsite. Initial reports indicated the driver of a vehicle was robbed at gunpoint, and a wallet was stolen.  The suspect fled the scene prior to police arriving however, a description of the suspect was obtained.

While investigating the first robbery, police were dispatched to a local area shopping center for a second armed robbery where a cell phone was stolen. A description was provided of the suspect, which resembled the one from the initial armed robbery. No one was harmed in either robbery.

While making patrols, police located the suspect, who fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit police took the suspect into custody and a firearm was recovered shortly after. Wyatt Omeasoo, a 24-year-old male from the Ermineskin Cree Nation was charged with the following criminal code offences:

  • Robbery with a firearm (X2)
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm 
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose 
  • Careless use of a firearm 
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by crime
  • Resisting arrest
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm 

Omeasoo was remanded into custody after a bail hearing, and is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday, April 12 2022.
