On Aug. 23, 2022, between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Red Deer RCMP received numerous reports of an erratic driver travelling throughout the City.

Several concerned citizens called 911 to report a black pick-up truck passing others on the shoulder and in the grass, cutting other drivers off, and travelling at a high rate of speed.

RCMP immediately responded, in order to intercept and stop the vehicle, coordinated by the Red Deer Crime Reduction Team, along with General Duty, Police Dog Services, and RCMP Air Support.

Information provided by the public led police to identify the licence plate as stolen. RCMP located the vehicle and identified the male driver, who then abandoned the truck, which was determined to be stolen.

Following a brief foot chase, RCMP arrested the male driver. Further investigation resulted in police locating and seizing ammunition from inside the stolen truck, and a .22 calibre handgun on the male driver.

26-year-old Kyle Macleod of Red Deer, has been charged with 11 offenses, including the following:

  • Possession of Stolen Property – over $5000
  • Possession of Controlled Substance x2
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order Conditions x2
  • Unauthorized Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Knowingly Possess a Prohibited Weapon x2
  • Obstruct/ Resist a Peace Officer

Macleod was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Aug. 31, 2022.
