Construction of a new off-leash dog park will get underway in Ponoka in the coming months. The design of the new dog park was developed in consultation with the public over the past year.

The new park will be constructed on the east side of 49 Street, just south of 57 Avenue, across from the Town of Ponoka Operations Department.

“We’re excited to be moving ahead with the construction of a new off-leash dog park in our community. It’s something that our citizens have been asking for. I am confident it will be a well-used facility by our local citizens, and I expect it will also attract visitors to our community,” said Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson, adding, “The Town would like to thank everyone who provided their input on the new dog park design.”

Visitors to the Ponoka Trade Show can get a sneak peek at what the new dog park will look like on April 14 and 15 at the Ponoka Arena Complex (4410 54 Street).

A video that takes you on a virtual tour of the new dog park will be displayed at the Town’s booth at the trade show. The video is also available on the Town of Ponoka’s online public engagement webpage at www.LetsTalkPonoka.ca.

Once construction of the new dog park is completed, the current off-leash dog park in the Battle River Valley (east of the pedestrian bridge and north of 57 Avenue) will close, and the fencing and signage around that facility will be removed.
