On May 8, 2023, Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the O’Chiese First Nation. Upon arrival, 31-year-old Brett Roan was found deceased. His manner of death was deemed to be a homicide.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit were called in to investigate and an arrest warrant was obtained for 25-year-old Boyd Beaverbones, a resident of the O’Chiese First Nation.
On May 29, 2023, Boyd Beaverbones was arrested on O’Chiese First Nation.
Beaverbones has been charged with second degree murder. After a Judicial Interim Release hearing, he was remanded into custody and his next court date is June 7, 2023, at Alberta Court of Justice in Rocky Mountain House.
