Shayla Sklaruk – Queens Cross Country Running

Hometown – Stony Plain, AB

Bachelor of Education Elementary (2nd year)

This past Saturday, Shayla Sklaruk (25:52.98) had an incredible 6 km race at Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix #2 on her home course. The second-year Bachelor of Education Elementary student finished first among ACAC women, over 12 seconds faster than second place Ana Zulic (26:05.50) of Concordia University. The talented runner from Stony Plain led the host Red Deer College Queens to top spot among ACAC female teams, with an impressive 14 team points. The Concordia University Thunder were second with 26 points followed by the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings with 55.

Devin Saunders – Kings Cross Country Running

Hometown – Red Deer, AB

Business Administration General Management (2nd year)

Red Deer’s Devin Saunders (28:24.98) ran extremely well at ACAC Running Room Grand Prix #2 on Saturday, September 14. The Business Administration General Management student completed the 8 km competition in second spot among ACAC male participants and had a strong final push to remain ahead of SAIT’s Brant Lauweryssen (28:27.52). Saunders helped guide the RDC Kings to first place in the ACAC Men’s Division, with only 21 team points. The SAIT Trojans placed second with 25 points and the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings captured third with 55.

This Week in RDC Athletics

This week, both Red Deer College Soccer teams will compete against the Ambrose University Lions in Calgary. Even though Grand Prix #3 is in Grande Prairie this Saturday, the RDC Cross Country Running team will not participate in favour of balancing rest with training at home. There is also nonconference hockey action on the road.
