Open Farm Days Breaks Records as More People are Keen to Learn Where their Food Comes From

Open Farm Days broke records this year as visitors flocked to farms and ranches across the province to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of rural Alberta.

There were close to 18,000 visits to 92 farms and ranches hosting events and activities August 21st and 22nd, while 26 culinary events offered unique farm to table experiences during the two days.

On farm sales totalled more than $134,000, up 35 per cent over last year's event as visitors showed their support of producers and agri-tourism operators.

Ricardo Mirando, Minister of Culture and Tourism says “Open Farm Days continues to grow in popularity as Albertans look for unique experiences and opportunities to learn more about the people who put the food on their table. With Canada set to begin celebrating its 150th anniversary, work has already begun for an even bigger and better Open Farms Days 2017.”

A number of Farms in Central Alberta participated in 2016 including Flying Cross Ranch and Bles Wold Dairy near Lacombe, Aspen Ranch, Eagle Creek Farms and Pearson's Berry Farm in the Bowden area and the Jungle Farm near Innisfail.
