Westerner Park released some exciting new events to come to this summer’s Westerner Days at an event launch held on April 30th at the new Exhibition Hall.

The hall will be a new and active component of the upcoming Westerner Days and will be put to use by Dinosaurs Unearthed, a live interactive robotic dinosaur display. Twenty-six larger than life animatronic dinosaurs will move and interact to create engaging realistic scenes. Accompanying the robots will be a large collection of real dinosaur fossils and many interactive displays.

“The largest one is six and a half tons so they’re going to be big dinosaurs. There’s going to be the animatronic dinosaurs, they’ll be skeletons in there, real fossils and educational bits to it…” explained Bradley Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Westerner Park continuing, “It's going to be a great show something new to Central Alberta for sure. It’s never been here before so were expecting it to be a highly sought-after attraction for families and little kids to come and see.”

However, if you have your sights set on the living Westerner Days will once again welcome the Alberta Professional Chuckwagon and Chariot Association back to the fairgrounds.  Forty wagons and twenty-four chariots are set to perform and participate in the Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships from July 17th to July 21st.

“We have more animals that will be on sight. We have the new rides; we have the logger show that will be coming this year and it will be the first year with this particular show.”

The Laughing Loggers will be performing in the Amphitheatre and will be bringing comedy, ax throwing, and chainsaw wood carving to the table.

As for performances, on the night of July 19th Red Deer will be glowing with luminescent shows, glow paint, and a concert at the Centrium for Glow Night. Westerner Days will also feature a variety of musical concerts from Holly Woods & Toronto, Aaron Goodvin, Jason Benoit, Streetheart, Headpins, Nicehorse and more to come.

“It’s going to be a very different fair and very exciting from what we’ve had in the past. We hope each year to keep making it better, and better, and I think this year will be a good example of that,” said Williams.

As the days near the event, Westerner Days will only be adding to their repertoire of fun activities leading up to the event which is sure to a great time for Central Albertans.
