The Battle River Shock midget football team is in action tomorrow night, as they take on the visiting Lloydminster Red Dogs at 1pm, down at M.E. Global field.

The Shock is made up of players from grades 9-11 from Lacombe and surrounding communities such as Red Deer, Blackfalds, Clive, Camrose, and Rocky Mountain House to name a few.

Coach Marin Stevens explains one of the biggest differences these kids experience playing on a multiple community team like the Shock.

"The biggest thing is it’s a different experience. A lot of these kids who are coming from smaller towns, they might only have 30 players on their team and, a lot of them played multiple positions or different things. So when they come on a program like ours, we've got, you know, 45-50 guys on the roster."

"So number one you are competing for a spot. And then number two you are going up against seasoned veteran guys at a tier one level. So if you are used to playing tier three, even though you may be a tier one level guy yourself, the majority of your team probably isn't so, it gives those guys that opportunity."

Stevens says this gives players the opportunity to up their game and improve their skills.

The other central Alberta midget football team The Prairie Fire plays tonight at M.E. Global field at 7:15 versus the Hilltoppers out of Calgary.
