Local Olympic Athlete Maddison Pearman is making her way through the community thanking the residents of Ponoka for their support during her time at the Olympics in Beijing.

The community came together decorating their the town with posters, and signs cheering Pearman on as she competed in speed skating ranking in 26th in 1,000 meter and 24th in 1,500 meter.

Members of the public are invited to come meet Pearman at the Ponoka Boston Pizza from 12:00PM until 2:00PM on Sunday, March 20th.

“Everybody that knows Madison or if you don't know Madison, come on out to BP's on Sunday, March 20th from 12 till 2. You can come and get an autograph and come get a picture. She's a pretty great girl so and we're very proud of her. If you’re looking for something to do on Sunday come and meet our local Olympian,” said Sharon Klinger, a friend of the Pearman family.

Klinger hinted that Beijing may not be the last Olympic journey for the athlete who is hoping to continue her training.  Sharon Klinger was an advocate for the athlete helping to fundraise for the family in an effort to cover some of costs of training Pearman faced over the last few years.

“She's actually going around to the businesses today, so a lot of them that did the fundraising and stuff are just going to give her cheques today.  We still have a bank account set up at ATB in town as well. If anybody would like to still donate in support of  her training and travel… it's under Madison Spearman at ATB in Ponoka,” said Klinger.

Additionally, Pearman will be visiting local schools in Ponoka who have been cheering her along throughout her Olympic journey as well. Klinger says many students are excited to meet the Olympic athlete.
