Alberta Environment has downgraded the flood warnings for most of The Red Deer River basin to a flood watch...but a flood warning remains in place for The Little Red Deer river.

Red Deer River Basin:

Advisories:

  • Flood Warning - The Little Red Deer River
  • Flood Warning downgraded to a Flood Watch- Red Deer River mainstem upstream of Gleniffer Reservoir
  • Flood Watch - Bearberry Creek, Fallentimber, James and Raven Rivers
  • High Streamflow - Medicine River and the mainstem of the Red Deer River from Dickson Dam to the Saskatchewan border

River Impacts:

  • Water level rises of less than 2 metres are possible
  • Red Deer River upstream of Glennifer Reservoir - Current forecasts result in lower water level changes.  No known impacts are expected at this time, however river response will continue to be monitored and this advisory will be adjusted as necessary.
  • Little Red Deer River - Possible impacts at Hwy 587, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Westward Ho Campground will be impacted.

 

North Saskatchewan River Basin:

Advisories:

  • Flood Watch - Brazeau River, Ram River, Prairie Creek, Baptiste River, Nordegg River, Clearwater River
  • High Streamflow - mainstem of the North Saskatchewan River from the Bighorn Dam to the Saskatchewan border

River Impacts:

  • Out of bank conditions are expected no significant infrastructure should be affected based on the forecast.

With the heavy rainfall expected all day Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, Alberta Environment is continuing to monitor the situation on The Red Deer River.

The City of Red Deer has activated the Emergency Operations Centre in preparation for potential flooding that could impact the city over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Rainfall warnings continue for most of Central Alberta, and some areas could see as much as 73-125 mms by Wednesday morning. Areas along the foothills and further to the west will be most affected.

Red Deer River Basin:

Advisories:

  • Flood Warning  - Red Deer River upstream of Burnt Timber Creek, the Red Deer River mainstem from Burnt Timber Creek to Gleniffer Reservoir,  the Little Red Deer River
  • Flood Watch - Bearberry Creek, Fallentimber, James and Raven Rivers
  • High Streamflow - Medicine River and the mainstem of the Red Deer River from Dickson Dam to the Saskatchewan border

River Impacts:

  • Water level rises of between 2 and 3.5 meters are possible
  • Red Deer River - Forestry Trunk Road near Mountain Aire Lodge impacted
  • Red Deer River Sundre - extensive flooding of the Bearberry plain (low lying areas upstream of Sundre); campground in Sundre may be impacted is flows are high for a long period of time
  • Little Red Deer River - Hwy 587, Red Lodge Provincial Park and Westward Ho Campground significantly affected; 0.75-1 m higher than levels observed in May 2020 

North Saskatchewan River Basin:
