Lacombe's Historical Society looks forward to keeping up momentum with AGM tonight

The Lacombe and District Historical Society is hosting their Annual General Meeting tonight (March 30). You will have the chance to learn about the historical society and network within the community as well as discuss their AGM theme: ‘Reimagining the Cultural Experiences in the Lacombe Region.’ 

The theme fits with one of the organization’s major projects this year. The Historical Society will be creating a ‘reimagination’ of the Michener House Museum as well as some building upgrades and improvements. The organization has recently put out a public survey to gauge what the public would like to see within the walls of the home of Roland Michener.  

"The theme was chosen to celebrate the work we accomplished in 2022 to reinvigorate the Historical Society within our community but also to empower our community to continue the engaging and innovative work throughout 2023 and into 2024. We hope to also pass a few bylaws this year that need some amending to them and to inform all of the attendees about the transformations that are currently underway, including the Lacombe Museum's Reimagined project as well as changes to our technologies, services and the offerings that we have here in the heritage arts and culture experiences of the Lacombe region," said Melissa Blunden Executive Director of the Lacombe and District Historical Society. 

2022 was a major year for Historical Society which received Non-Profit of the Year from the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards. They also saw a record-breaking 10,000 in-person visitors. They are looking forward to keeping up the momentum in 2023.  

Those who are attending the AGM are encouraged to have their memberships up to date so that they are able to vote on proposed new bylaws as well as elect three new Board Directors. However, anyone from the community is welcome to attend. 

The AGM will be held at the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre’s Shunda Theatre on Thursday, March 30. A networking event will be happening from 5:30-6:45PM with appetizers and refreshments and the AGM will be happening from 7-8PM.  For more information click here.
