Lacombe’s Charity Check Stop was a huge success this year. The check stop was held on November 26th and was located downtown Lacombe near the fire station.
“The Charity Check Stop was hugely successfully had a lot of fun working with the Lacombe Police Service, firefighters here in Lacombe. We had FCSS come out with a few volunteers as well as MADD volunteers. It went very successful. We had a lot of people really excited to see Santa,” said Breanna Berthiaume, Executive Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters Lacombe & District.
This year the check stop introduced ‘tap donations’ making giving a little bit easier. In total, the fundraiser was able to collect $5,391 for local non-profits.
“Everybody was really giving and really appreciated that we had the tap option this year available. We were able to collect some toys and donations also for Santa's Anonymous as well as some food for the Lacombe Food Bank,” added Berthiaume.
Big Brothers and Big Sisters Lacombe looks forward to using the extra funding for their Kids and Cops summer day camp.
“The dollars raised from this every year from our side goes to our Kids and Cops summer day camp program. We're really excited that [the check stop] it’s seeing the success this year because our summer camp that ran in 2022 was so successful. We know we're really excited to serve and run that program again in 2023,” said Berthiaume.
