If you have a little one interested in playing football, you will want to attend the Lacombe and Area Minor Football’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, March 8. At the event, you can get some information and register for Spring Flag Football and Tackle Football.

Head Coach of the Lacombe Raiders, Fred Knip says boys and girls born in 2008-2014 are welcome to play. There are two different experiences for the young athletes partake in.

Flag football is no contact runs most Sunday nights from 6:00PM to 7:30PM from May 1st to June 13th.

Tackle football starts on May 10-28 and then runs again starting in August 23rd until mid-November which is full contact.

Coach Knip says all players should come ready to win.

“There's two ways of looking at a game or practice or a sport, and I always think ‘we're going to win’. Other people say ‘I hope we win’ or ‘we're going to try to win,’ but obviously, we're going to win that's our beginning point,” said Knip.

Registration ranges from $275-$375 but funding is available. Additionally, Knip says the league can lend equipment if necessary.

“We provide all the equipment. The only thing they have to bring is their own shoes. If they don't have football shoes, in the last 20 years we've got boxes of used shoes that kids have left behind. If they need a pair of shoes we will provide shoes as well, but most kids buy their own,” said Knip.

Overall, Knip is looking forward to another great season of football.

“It builds community. It builds family, we all work together. We're on the same team we're going in the same direction. It is great. I think it doesn't matter whether you're super athletic or you can't put one foot in front of the other come on out,” added Knip.

The Annual General Meeting will be held at the ME Global Field House near the Lacombe Composite High School from 7:00PM until 8:30PM. For more information on the league, you can visit Lacombe Minor Football's website here.
