The Lacombe Fire Department has welcomed a new fire chief. Jason Fleming has taken on the role.

Fleming and his family have recently moved to the community of Lacombe but are happy to be here.

“We’ve had deep set roots in the community for a long time, just with our farming background,” said Fleming.

He has had a long career in firefighting and is looking forward to working with the Lacombe Fire Department.

“I’ve been a firefighter since 2002. I started my career in Alberta and just progressed from paid on-call to composite to career departments for the last 18 years,” explained Fleming.

Fleming says there will be some changes made to the fire department but nothing that will be rushed.

“We have a few plans set in place. It’s going to be a slow process with the support of the membership and the community I’m sure we will make the fire department a great place to be,” he explained.

In addition to the new chief, the Lacombe Fire Department has also welcomed a new Deputy Fire Chief named Darrick Graff.

“He joined us from Fort Saskatchewan back in May of 2023,” said Fleming.

One of the biggest reasons behind taking on the role of Chief is that Fleming is happy to return to Lacombe.

“Honestly, I didn’t hesitate to apply. It’s just somewhere we wanted to be and it’s an amazing place to raise a family and enjoy life,” he added.
