It’s National Volunteer week and the Lacombe and District Family and Community Support Services will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Awards and Dessert Night on Tuesday, April 18th to celebrate local volunteers.

The event has been on hiatus since 2017 and the organization is excited to bring it back to the City.

“Our community is bursting with volunteers. We are excited to host the platform to recognize all community volunteers. Each agency is encouraged to purchase a table or people can buy single tickets to celebrate our community volunteerism and all the support that our organizations have from these wonderful people that really give where they live for sure,” explained Executive Director of the Lacombe FCSS, Crystal Zens.

In addition to celebrating local volunteers, awards will be given out as well.

“People are encouraged to come. We have entertainment, we'll have a fleet of desserts to serve up and [will be] honoring some really special nominees and award winners,” she added.

Awards will be given out in categories for youth, adults, and seniors. Zens says selecting the award winners has been a really challenging process.

“Our selection committee was made up of four different agencies. It was the most difficult thing I’ve done in a long time because everybody is so incredibly deserving. Reviewing how much time, energy and love they give to their prospecting non-profits was very outstanding. It was a difficult task,” said Zens.

Tickets to that event are $10 but everyone is welcome to attend and support all the volunteers in the community. The event will be happening at the Lacombe Memorial Centre (LMC) starting at 6:30PM.

Following that event, the Lacombe FCSS will also be hosting the Backyard Friend Community Supper on Wednesday, April 19th at 5:30PM. Their Annual General Meeting (AGM) will also be on Thursday, April 20th starting at 7:00PM. The AGM is a great place to hear about what the organization is up to and what you can expect from the Lacombe FCSS in the future.

“It's a place where we just come to celebrate our successes, maybe talk about some of the challenges our year had. We also have some client testimonies as well. We'll have our reports given and also look to the future of what to expect from our agency and our community service for future projects and future services,” she added.

The AGM and the Community Supper are free to attend and will be held at the LMC. The AGM will be held in the Servus Community Room inside the LMC.
