The countdown is on for Lacombe Days which is kicking off this week. Lacombe Days events will start on Thursday, July 14th and will go on until Sunday, July 17th.

A favourite event is back for a second time

President of the Lacombe Days Committee, Kristie Singer is looking forward to hosting a weekend that is absolutely jam-packed full of fun. When asked how long Lacombe Days has been happening, Singer noted that the answer was on a strict need to know basis.

“Lacombe days has been done for many years, but I can't tell you how many years because that is one of our scavenger hunt questions, actually. There's a little bit of a sneak peek into the scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt started last year and it was much loved by the community and it was one of the things that most people said to please have again this year,” explained Singer.

This year's scavenger hunt will be offered through the Goose Chase App and there are over $5,000 in prizes to be won.

Local businesses are ready to celebrate

Local businesses will also be offering up a slew of activities including the Sunny 94 Barbeque which will be held on Friday, July 15 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. You can check out a full schedule here.

Expect a loud parade

As for the parade, Singer says the number of floats for the parade is growing daily and Lacombe residents and visitors will be sure to hear the parade coming.

“I can tell you that this year there will be marching bands, and as far as I understand, right now there may be up to three or four marching bands that we haven't been able to get in years past,” explained Singer.

The parade will be happening on Saturday, July 16 at 9:30 AM.

Fireworks at Cranna Lake

Fireworks are another favourite activity that will be happening on Saturday, July 16 at Cranna Lake at dusk from 9:00PM to 11:30PM.

Something new to look forward to

Singer says there are a couple of new activities being hosted by the African Caribbean Heritage Alliance.

“One of the new things that we actually have is a group called the African Group. They're going to be putting on a dance, supper, and a market. That's going to be one of our new events this year,” said Singer.

Still looking for volunteers

Singer says they are still looking for more volunteers to take part in Thursday Night’s Retro Jam Fest on July 14th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Anyone interested in volunteering can click here.
