The Lacombe Athletic Park Association is getting ready to host their 12th annual fundraising gala on March 5th.

Last year, the gala wasn’t able to go on due to the COVID-19 pandemic but this year, the organization is looking forward to putting on a full-fledged event. This year’s event will have a 70’s theme and those attending are encouraged to dress up in their best disco or 70’s wear.

“Once again, we have some great entertainment coming out. We have our phenomenal emcee who's been with us for many years, Gary Schubert. He always does a great job with including everybody and costume changes, and he's just a super character. We also have a really great catered dinner, lots of Raffles, live auction, silent auction, table raffle, and we have the bar. It's just going to be a really fun night and we're so happy to be doing it this year,” explained Delaney Hill, Special Events Coordinator for the Lacombe Athletic Park Association.

Right now, LAPA is working to fundraise for phase two of expansion for the ME Global Athletic Park located near the Ecole Lacombe Composite High School.

“[It] will be the addition of a rubber running track to encircle the field as well as all of the accompanying track and field facilities that go along with that. We're just very excited to be looking to that in the future and to be able to host some really large-scale track and field events in Lacombe which will be just be great for the community,” said Hill.

Hill says LAPA intends to break ground for phase two tentatively in the spring; however, an official date has not yet been confirmed.

The LAPA Gala helps to fundraise for the general operations of the ME Global Athletic Park.

“We put on the event and that covers a lot of our operating costs for the year. We don't have a specific goal in mind, but we just always try to make sure we get as many people out as possible. We just try to put on a really great event and it just helps us to keep doing what we're doing,” explained Hill.

Tickets for the event are $125 each or $900 for a full table of eight. You can purchase tickets here

Additionally, if you are a fan of the Edmonton Elks, the gala will provide the opportunity to bump elbows with a couple CFL stars.

“We have our very own local Edmonton Elks, Tanner Green and Cole Nelson coming out which we're so excited about. We also have Calvin McCarty long time CFL alumni. We're just very excited to have them coming to be a part of our night,” added Hill.

From 2:00PM to 3:00PM on March 5th, you can get a signature from the celebrity guests at the Lacombe Memorial Centre free of charge but the organization will be collecting donations at the event.
