The Lacombe AA Generals are now on the ice practicing and getting ready to kick off their 2022-23 season.

After revealing new jerseys earlier this Summer, The Gens are now ready to actually play some hockey.

The team will be kicking off the season on the road October 1st in Westlock at 7:00PM against the Westlock Warriors. The first home game will be 7:45PM at the Gary Moe Autogroup Sportsplex against the Devon Barons on October 8th.

After winning the Men’s Senior AA Provincials, Jared Williams, Team Manager and player on the Lacombe AA Generals, said he’s feeling confident but wants to remain humble.

“It was fun to win but that was definitely a different team then it will be this year. Even though we have so many guys returning, which is awesome. That makes my job easy and makes it fun because we know the group that we're going to have," said Williams.

Williams said they are expecting four or five new players on the ice this year.

“You definitely want to have a strong 28-man roster going into January which is when we have to cut down to our 28-man playoff roster. With it being senior hockey and everybody’s lives are all involved around work and other things, you got to be able to be flexible for injuries...We've got about 30 guys on the table right now and just looking forward to kind of start in the year and seeing how things play out with schedules and all that stuff,” explained Williams.

Williams says the team is looking forward to the certainty of this year’s season following a pandemic season last year. The AA Generals are also looking for volunteers to help out during the games.

“We can always use interested volunteers. We're looking to help out with security or whatever they possess for strengths and weaknesses. We like to put them somewhere based on their strengths. So, if there are any volunteers looking to help out, we're always happy to have more on board,” added Williams.
