The Alberta Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeals for a new trial filed by Jason Klaus and Joshua Frank on their first-degree murder convictions.

Klaus and Frank were charged in August of 2014 with first-degree murder and arson in the deaths of Klaus's parents and sister in the small community of Castor.

Gordon, Sandra and Monica Klaus were shot to death before their bodies were burned in the family home near Castor. Sandra's body was never recovered, but investigators believed she was also in the fire.

They were found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder in February of 2018, both being sentenced to life in prison, with parole ineligibility set at 25 years, to be served concurrently.

The court heard that the two men set out to murder Klaus's parents, worried they would find out about all the money Jason had been stealing and the cheques he had been forging.
