Karlee Fetch – Queens Hockey

Hometown – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

Open Studies (5 th year)

Goaltender Karlee Fetch had an incredible weekend on the ice, stopping 59 out of 60 shots (0.983) and helping the Queens pick up a pair of wins over the SAIT Trojans. In Friday’s 1-0 shutout home victory, the fifth-year made 27 saves and played an integral role in RDC earning two points in the standings. She was also named the Collegiate Sports Medicine Queens Player-of-the-Game.

Then the Open Studies student turned aside 32 out of 33 shots in Saturday’s 2-1 decision in Calgary. As SAIT pressed to tie the game, Fetch made many timely and outstanding saves, guiding her squad to another two points. For her dominant performance, the hard-working netminder from Prince Albert was recognized as the Queens Player-of-the-Game, once again.

She has the third highest winning percentage among Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) goalies (0.727) this season. Fetch and the second place Red Deer College Queens (14-4-2-0) have already solidified a spot in the playoffs, with four regular season contests remaining.

 

Carter Hills – Kings Volleyball

Hometown – Legal, Alberta

Bachelor of Education Science (1 st year)

Carter Hills continues to evolve his game and make an impact for Kings Volleyball. Over two matches, Hills helped the RDC Kings defeat the Olds College Broncos twice while accumulating impressive statistics. The six-foot-two outside hitter contributed 11 kills, eight digs, two service aces and one assist in the Kings’ sweep of the Broncos (25-15, 25-22 and 25-18) on Friday.

Then in Saturday’s rematch in Olds, the Bachelor of Education Science student recorded a game-high 15 kills to go along with three stuff blocks, two digs and one ace. Hills had an impressive 0.419 hitting percentage in the four set road victory (25-14, 25-19, 23-25 and 25-19).

Over both matches, the talented first-year student-athlete averaged 3.71 kills per set, up from his season average of 2.88, which ranks first on the Kings and ninth in the entire league. Hills and the second seed Kings (16-4) have already qualified for the playoffs with four regular season matches left.
