Premier Jason Kenney has been awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit, Class II by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He was notified of the award by Ukrainian Ambassador Yulia Kovaliv

"I accept the honour on behalf of Albertans, who have demonstrated overwhelming support for Ukraine during this time of trial. Slava Ukraini!" Kenney said in a tweet.

Alberta has been one of Canada's biggest supporters of Ukraine, with Kenney pledging support multiple times and investing millions of dollars in supports. These include, but are not limited to:

  • $1 million in supports announced in February
  • $2 million in supports for Ukrainians arriving in the province in April
  • Additional supports announced in July to cover basic living expenses.

Alberta's funds were used to help displaced Ukrainians in many ways, including rapid settlement aid, immediate health coverage and access to K-12 schools, as well as licensed child care and employment assistance. Full details on Alberta's involvement in supporting Ukraine can be found here.
