On 2016-10-21 at 3:42 p.m., Sylvan Lake RCMP along with Associated EMS and the Innisfail and Spruce View Fire Department’s attended the scene of a 2 vehicle Motor Vehicle Collision at the rural intersection of Twp 370 and RR 32 in the County of Red Deer (north of Spruce View).

Initial investigation has determined that a west bound Chevrolet Uplander Van failed to yield at a Yield Sign and subsequently was struck on the driver`s side by a northbound School Bus. The van ended up on it’s side in a ditch which was partially filled with water.

The School Bus, operated by Prairie Bus Lines, had 12 children aboard at the time of collision (ages ranging from 5 years old to 16 years old). All children were assessed by EMS on scene and released with no injuries. The driver of the bus was also uninjured. Students were on their way home from the Spruce View School (Chinooks Edge School Division No. 73).

The driver of the Chevrolet Uplander van had to be extricated from the van by the Fire Dept and was taken to the hospital with unknown but non life threatening injuries. There were 2 young passengers that also suffered minor injuries and were also transported by EMS to Hospital for further assessment.

Investigation into the cause of the collision continues and no charges have been laid at this time.
