On Sept. 15, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers of the Wetaskiwin RCMP were making patrols when they observed a White Ford Mustang driving erratically at extreme speeds on Highway 795. Checks on the vehicle revealed that it had been reported as stolen out of Edmonton. The subject’s driving behavior posed an extreme risk to public safety. The Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and an Alberta RCMP helicopter were activated to maintain surveillance on the vehicle. RCMP successfully deployed a tire deflation device on the vehicle which soon lost control and drove off the road. Officers arrested the two vehicle occupants without further incident.

Dylan Zachary Lewis (31), a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with:

·       Dangerous driving

·       Possession of Stolen property over $5000.

Lewis was taken before a justice of the peace and released from custody with conditions. His next court appearance is set for Oct. 14, 2022, at Wetaskiwin Provincial Court.

The second occupant was later released without charges.

“Utilizing strong tactics and appropriate resources we were able to put a stop to this dangerous driver while minimizing the risk to the public, “says Staff Sergeant Dean Grunow of the Wetaskiwin RCMP.
