It’s that time of year where it might be wise to double-check water quality before heading out for a swim in our local lakes. Blue-green algae is a common problem this time of year as well as other water quality issues.

Blue-green algae occurs naturally and becomes visible when weather conditions are calm. It looks like scum, grass clippings, fuzz or globs on the surface of the water. It can cause skin irritations, a rash, sore throat, sore eyes, swollen lips, fever, vomiting and diarrhea.
