Lacombe Generals sneaked through to the semi-final after a 3-2 double overtime win against the Lameque Au P’tit Mousse on Thursday.

Generals were just seconds away from a 2-1 win, but the Au P’tit Mousse were able to tie it up with just 20 seconds left in the third with their goalie pulled.

Evan Oberg scored the game winner with about two minutes left in the second OT frame, sending the Gens to the semi-final game on Friday.

“It was a long battle and it felt great. We’re really happy we get to move on now,” said Oberg.

"There was a lot of ups and downs, but we have a one-of-a kind group of guys in this locker room who do whatever it takes to win.”

It was a tight-checking game, something Head Coach Curtis Austring said is expected at this point in the Allan Cup.

“No team in the tournament gives up their zone that easily so you have to navigate the water of the neutral zone and try to get some pressure on the puck.”

Kraymer Barnstable was stellar all game stoping 45 of 47 shots, including 19 in the overtime periods.

“He was excellent. He was making saves and controlling pucks, rebounds and got in front of tips. It was an excellent effort.”

Brandon Magee and Riley Sheen also scored for the Generals.

Generals play South East Prairie Thunder in the semi-final, a team they have played in the final of the last two Allan Cups.

Austring said they need to be ready if they expect to advance to the final on Saturday.

“They trap effectively and you have to make sure you’re managing the puck well. They have a good goalie who plays the puck. We’ve seen them lots so we know what to expect.”
