Lacombe Generals kicked off their road to the Allan Cup in style last night with an overtime win against the Bouctouche Dodge Ram JCs.

The defending champs beat the JCs 5-4 in their first-round robin game and did so in typical Gens fashion.

They played physical, kept their legs moving and outshot the JCs 48-33.

“I think it’s a typical Allan Cup hockey game. We played a good team in their building and I think our guys got their legs under them and played some really good hockey,” said Head Coach Curtis Austring.

Myles Bell played hero scoring the game winner with just eight seconds left in overtime.

“I was just hoping time wouldn’t run out. I wasn’t quite sure how much time we had left and I was just trying to get in there as quick as possible and thankfully it went in.”

Overall, Bell liked how the entire team played especially after a long day on Monday.

“It was good to get the first one out of the way, especially after the travel and the time change, it was good to see the effort and pull out the win.”

Jesse Todd also had big game scoring twice in the first period. Eric Schneider and Ryan Kinasewich also scored for the Generals.

Gens are right back at it Wednesday night matching up against the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts who won their first game of the tournament 2-1 over the JC’s.

Austring said they’ll be ready.

“We need to execute well, stay disciplined and stay out the penalty box.”

“They have some weapons over there that can make you pay, so the trick is keeping the game in front of you, create turnovers and scoring on your chances.”

If the Generals can win their second game of the round robin, they’ll skip the Quarter-Finals and head straight to the Semi-Final on Friday.
