Our Lacombe Generals hit a bump in the road on their way to the Allan Cup, after last night’s 3-2 loss to the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts.

It’s not what they were hoping for, but the good news is they’re still alive.

The Gens are known as a pretty physical team and what they would generally get away with in the Chinook League isn’t working out for them at the Allan Cup.

Head Coach Curtis Austring explains.

“The reality is it’s tournament hockey here so it’s a little bit different than playing a playoff series where the intensity level gets up and they (the refs) look the other way.”

“The intensity level is up here, but they don’t let anything slide.”

Gens had 64 penalty minutes on 16 infractions and gave up one powerplay goal.

With the loss, instead of getting a bye into Friday’s semi-final, the Generals will play Thursday against the Lameque Au P’tit Mousse in the quarters.

It’s simple, they win they move on, they lose and they go home.

Gens forward Sean Robertson, isn’t ready to head back to Alberta.

“They’re New Brunswick champions so they deserve to be here, we deserve to be here, but we need to stay focused.”

“We need to play more of our style rather than get caught up playing anybody else’s game and worry about what they’re doing.”

Teggan Moore and Ian Barteaux scored for the Generals, while Matt Bragg, Matthew Stefanishion and Stuart Macrae scored for the Au P'tit Mousse.

Generals were outshot 34-26.

Thursday’s matchup goes at 1 p.m and is being broadcasted online at http://tv1.bellaliant.ca/Home/Live/1.
