You may have spotted a parade of vehicles making its way through Lacombe this afternoon (December 9, 2022). Four local businesses teamed up to provide a massive donation to the local food banks including Weidner Motors Ltd., Empire Auto Sales, Gary Moe Chrysler, and Lionel’s No Frills.

Last year, the same businesses did an ‘epic grocery haul’ pushing 16 carts of food to the Lacombe Food Bank but with snow and ice on the roadways pushing those carts would have been a little bit more challenging.

Instead, a van filled with food was police escorted to the Lacombe Food Bank but in total over $10,000 worth of food was split between the Lacombe and Blackfalds Food Banks. $2,000 worth of food was delivered to the Blackfalds Food Bank, and $7,500 worth of food was delivered in Lacombe. The businesses were able to top last year’s donation by over $2,000.

“I think it’s a great cause to support the community and bring some joy to some less fortunate families in the area and that’s why we do it. We have a Christmas Spirit Campaign that we do in all of our stores whether it be in Lacombe or Red Deer,” said said Dean Moe, Gary Moe Chrysler Dealer Principal.

Around 15 volunteers from the businesses set to work delivering the food and made quick work of the large delivery.
