Early this morning (August 24, 2022) a fire broke out at Janet Mclaren Cook Park destroying a small gazebo structure in the process. The park is located off of Highway 2A South Bound near the Gaetz Avenue Bridge near the Red Deer River.

“We had two engines and a rush truck arrive at the Janet Cook Arbor Park gazebo for fully involved fire structure at in the gazebo. The fire appears to have originated in the garbage can and then extended onto the wooden gazebo,” said Red Deer Emergency Services Fire Safety Code Officer, Ken Rosgen.

Rosgen said it is not known whether the fire was set intentionally at this time.

However, there were no injuries involved with the incident.
