In spite of recent rainfall in many parts of Central Alberta, there are still some areas that are under fire advisories or restrictions.
As always, before lighting any fires check with your local authorities for the latest updates.
Ponoka County-Fire Advisory remains in place
Open Burn and Fireworks Discharge Permit applications will be approved on a case-by-case basis throughout the Ponoka County Regional Fire Services response area (Ponoka County, including the Town of Rimbey, Town of Ponoka and Summer Village of Parkland Beach).
Residents are permitted to use their backyard fire pit and burning barrel (both preferably with a screen), incinerators (for farm & acreage use), BBQs (propane/charcoal briquette) and smokers.
Always remember to use extreme caution while using your fire pits, burn barrels and conducting any open burning. An “under control” fire can change in a matter of seconds or minutes.
County of Stettler-Fire Restriction remains in place
This FIRE RESTRICTION:
- PROHIBITS NEW PERMITS for open fires;
- ALLOWS PERMITS for High Hazard Display Fireworks discharged by Licensed Fireworks Operator at Supervisor level;
- ALLOWS ESSENTIAL BURNING in burning barrels that are constructed of non-combustible material that have a tight fitting metal mesh screen;
- ALLOWS campfires in campgrounds and on private lands, contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen. Portable propane fire pits, Gas or propane stoves and barbecues.
All Terrain Vehicles can start wildfires - INSPECT YOUR ATV frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
Fire officials will continue to monitor fire danger conditions. We will update the public of any changes.
