President and CEO Karen Proud says at Fertilizer Canada, they know it is not enough to talk about how we want the world to be; we have to take action to make that world a reality.

"Canada's fertilizer industry is well positioned to meet the sustainability challenges of today and tomorrow. This is an opportunity to develop a holistic path forward that will better enable Canada to meet its emission targets while at the same time supporting farmers. We look forward to collaborating with the Grain Growers of Canada on the Road to 2050' initiative."

GGC Chair Andre Harpe says Fertilizer Canada's work on 4R Nutrient Stewardship has helped increase the adoption of practical solutions to improve on-farm sustainability.

"Their passion for innovation has helped farmers achieve meaningful emissions reductions and promoted a vision for a prosperous future for our sector."

Fertilizer Canada’s 4R Nutrient Stewardship program helps farmers optimize their fertilizer use, and increase nutrient uptake while improving crop production and reducing environmental impacts.

The 'Road to 2050' will propose a path forward that identifies opportunities for the sector to continue reducing its GHG emissions.

The GGC says recommendations will be made to guide government policies and programming directed at Canada's grains sector.
