Area: This alert is no longer in effect.

Description: The wildfire northwest of the town of Ponoka is being controlled. The reception centre is no longer open. Evacuated residences have now returned home. There is no longer a threat to residences in the area, unless the situation changes.

The [May 3, 2023]  wildfire in proximity to the Battle River Valley between Section 35-43-27-W4 and NW 17-43-26-W4 has been controlled and crews are carefully monitoring

BACKGROUND STORY

Alberta Emergency Alert (AEA) has issued an evacuation order for parts of Ponoka County.

Here is the official notice from AEA

  • Alert: May 03, 2023 at 04:36 PM

Area: This alert is in effect for everyone in the area northwest of the town of Ponoka.

Description: There is a wildfire 8 km northwest of the town of Ponoka, near Range Road 265 and Township Road 433. It is moving northwest.

Instruction: Homes on Township Road 434 near Highway 795 are evacuating now.

Everyone else in the area north and northwest of Township Road 434 and Highway 795 must prepare for a possible evacuation.

Gather important documents and medication and enough food, water and supplies for 3 days.

No evacuation is required at this time, unless authorities tell you to leave.

If you evacuate, go to the Reception Centre at the Ponoka Legion, at 3911 Highway 2 A, in Ponoka to register. If you need help evacuating, call 1-403-783-3333.
