In addition to the heat warning that was issued yesterday that remains in effect, Environment Canada has issued an air quality statement this afternoon as of 2:34PM on June 8, 2023.  

The statement is in effect for the Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer, Innisfail and Stettler areas. Environment Canada says high levels of ground-level ozone has developed in these areas which is expected to decrease late into the evening.  

Exposure the air may create symptoms like coughing, throat irriation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease such as asthma, are at risk.  

Those at risk should limit their time outdoors while the statement is in effect.
