Alberta Health Services (AHS) is taking additional precautions to limit the transmission of COVID-19 at acute and continuing care sites. Starting today, there will be enhanced limits for visitation.

There will be limited site access for designated support people and visitors who are close contacts of a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19. The measure will only apply to those who are a close contact regardless of a person’s vaccination status.

“This means that designated support persons or visitors who are a close contact or have a case of COVID-19 in their home will not be able to access Continuing Care or AHS acute care sites for 14 days from the date of last exposure,” said AHS in a statement.

AHS says the measure is only temporary. However, the organization encourages anyone who may have concerns as to the wellbeing of a patient during this time to contact a patient’s care team to discuss options.
