Blackfalds Town Council will be bringing e-scooters into the town for a two-year pilot project.

“I am excited that Blackfalds is welcoming another business partner into our community. One that provides a new service which directly and indirectly contributes to the economy, and enhances enjoyment for residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Jamie Hoover.

According to Roll and Mayor Hoover, this will be Canada's first connected e-scooter system, as both Lacombe and Red Deer have also implemented Roll in their communities.

“With the addition of the Roll E-Scooter service, we are enabling, for the very first time, 3 interconnected communities through a safe trail system by connecting Lacombe and Red Deer with Blackfalds being the central hub, offering an alternate mode of environmentally friendly transportation that is already enjoyed by so many,” added Hoover.

The trial program will be at no cost to the Town of Blackfalds.

Scooters are currently being deployed and will be available by August 26. Helmets can be ordered online via the Roll website, free of charge, and will be available at the Civic Cultural Centre during office hours in September.

Roll representatives will also be attending the Community Info Expo on September 7 at the Community Centre (6-8 pm) to share brochures, and information, answer questions and give away helmets.
