Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has announced the new 25 member cabinet which is a decrease from the previous 27 cabinet members.

With cabinet heavyweights voted out in last week’s election including Kaycee Madu, Tyler Shandro, and Jason Copping, there are a few changes. Other notable faces include Travis Toews and Sonya Savage who did not run in the recent election.

Red Deer North MLA, Adrianna LaGrange will be taking on a new role as Minister of Health. LaGrange has been serving as Alberta’s Minister of Education since April 30, 2019.

Former Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides will be taking on her role as Education Minister.

Jason Nixon, MLA for Rimbey, Rocky Mountain House and Sundre will also be taking on a new role as the Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services. Nixon served as Minister of Environment and Parks when Jason Kenney was Premier.

MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, Devin Dreeshen will also be keeping his role as Minister Transportation and Economic Corridors.

“I am so pleased to have this team working with me to deliver on the promises we made to Albertans during the election. These are not just our government’s priorities, they are Albertans’ priorities. The next four years start today, and I can’t wait to get back to work with each of my cabinet colleagues,” said Smith about cabinet changes.

Premier Danielle Smith noted that there was a historic change to cabinet today.
