A horrific tragedy occurred in Sylvan Lake this past weekend, leaving our community shocked and grieving for two young lives. On behalf of my Council Colleagues, and the community, I wish to offer my deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones affected by this heartbreak.
I also want to offer heartfelt thanks to the first responders of both communities. Thank you for your quick response and bravery. I also want to extend my thoughts to the school communities who will be providing support and resources to many grieving students over the coming weeks and months.
As the RCMP investigation is underway, and with respect to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic incident, we won’t provide further comments – but to share that we are here for anyone who needs support, and thank our school boards, and Alberta Heath Services for continuing to provide support to those that need it.
The Town of Sylvan Lake later released this statement:
On behalf of Mayor Megan Hanson and Council, the Town of Sylvan Lake would like to extend it’s condolences to all those affected by the recent loss in our community. We are saddened by the news and our thoughts are with the families at this time.
As this matter is currently under RCMP investigation, we will not be making additional comments.
