Schools around the country are celebrating and taking part in Family Literacy Week. Chinook's Edge School Division has many events and activities planned for their students.

Literacy is a fundamental divisional goal for students in every grade in all Chinook’s Edge schools. Some of the activities planned throughout the week are a fairytale scavenger hunt at Sylvan Lake’s C.P. Blakely Elementary School, and a ‘Panther Cafe’ with hot chocolate and cupcakes while browsing books at Penhold Crossing Secondary School.

Schools have arranged for special guest readers and have created displays with student book reviews and staff favourite picks. Students are bringing their favourite storybooks from home to read with their reading buddies, and prizes of a new book are being drawn for most time spent reading.

Chinook’s Edge embraces literacy all year long, but our schools are celebrating in high style during this Family Literacy Week!

Family Literacy Day has taken place every January 27th since 1999, to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities.
